Introducing our #TIALSBB of the week, Simone Garibaldi. Simone starred as one of our bad ass tennis players in our TIALS American Dream Collection Video (check it out if you haven't yet)! We got a chance to chat with Simone behind the scenes on the set about how she lived in Japan for 4 years, what career she is working towards, how she keeps her positive attitude and more!
If you could describe yourself in 3 words, what would they be?
Three words that describe me are mom, reliable, and blunt.
Why did you live in Japan and for how long?
I lived in japan for almost 4 years, I was over there for so long because my dad is in the military and that’s where we got stationed!
Was it difficult adjusting to adolescent life as an American mixed teenager in Japan?
It was difficult getting used to being in a different country, but there were lost of kids from the same military background of all types of ethnicities, and the fact it was in Japan it made it easier, because the people from there are one of the politest and caring people I have ever met, and their culture was so amazing to even experience, so it made life over there easier!
Do you know any Japanese?
I do! I took Japanese 1&2 in high school I mean I sucked at it, but I know a few things and what not! My fist word I learned in Japanese was peach, it’s pronounced momo! It’s the cutest thing to write in hiragana!
What career are you working towards and why did you decide to take that route?
The career I’m working towards goal is a certified nurse midwife! My dad being in military was deployed during my moms pregnancy with my little sister so most of the time it was me talking care of her, and when was ten, I saw her give birth and thought it was the coolest thing ever, and after that I wanted to take care of pregnant women and deliver babies!
Who are your biggest influences and why?
My biggest influences in my life are my mother and her sisters. My mother had me at a 18 , and yet she never was seen as the young girl who threw her life away, she finished school earlier, she got a career while pregnant with me and worked her ass off and was always independent and never gave her an excuse to slow down, she’s such a bad ass and she is the strongest person i know. My auntie Jordan is such a boss, she’s one the most intelligent women I have ever met, she’s made her life the way she wanted it, and ever since she was 16 she worked hard, got into UCLA and graduated early, got a career that most people can’t have, when she wants something she gets it, which is something I try to do, and hope to get to that level one day! And finally my auntie Jackie, she is one of the most loving people I have ever met, she is such a kind hearted woman, and she is always wanting to uplift someone and is so beautiful and yet it never gets to her head and no matter what she went through she always is able to be a positive, lively woman who taught me how to be in love with myself and others! Without all of them I would not be the bad bitch that I am today.
How do you keep such an upbeat and positive attitude?
How I keep an upbeat and positive attitude is just by being grateful and hopeful, I mean we all have our days, but I truly love life and the people I keep in my life, which I think is a big part, everyone in my life fills it with positive energy and I have nothing but hope for them, I try uplifting others around me, it makes me stay uplifted myself, no matter what I will try to say or do something positive for myself or at least wish something good for someone. I believe in karma and that the energy you put out in the world comes back to you, so I try to put out the energy I want the receive!
