LOVE IS LOVE.
AND WE ARE LIVE ON THE SAME PLANET.
SO, BE KIND.
June is Pride Month! Around the world, pride is always anticipated and celebrated. It is celebrated each year in June to honor the 1969 Stonewall Uprising in Manhattan.
The Stonewall Uprising began June 28, 1969, when New York City Police raided Stonewall Inn - a gay club located there. The raid sparked an outrage and then a riot which then transformed into a 6 days protest. Organizations such as the Gay Liberation Front and the Gay Activists Alliance were formed.
The event over time was adapted internationally and as of 2016, over 60 countries celebrate Pride worldwide. YAY!
In the present now, pride is an event people look forward to. It's an event that people go to support the community and to raise awareness in hopes of making a change in the world.
It's time to have a change. It's time to accept. It's time to welcome each and one another with open arms filled with love.
Many LGBTQ+ communities around the world are still fighting for a voice, they are still fighting for equality and acceptance.
For example, in Indonesia. The subject of Pride is still seen as taboo. People tend to avoid that conversation because of fear, shame, or even guilt.
In Jakarta, Indonesia’s capital city, the “Women’s March” is mixed to celebrate Pride as well. People march around the capitals monument, chanting for equality.
Our social media manager, Amy, has a few things to say about the matter:
"From the point of view of someone who happens to be on the same side as other LGBTQ+ friends. Pride Month is a form of action for the rights and equality of every individual. I think Pride Month is a vocalization of bad treatment – discrimination, sanctions, and social stigma to unwarranted physical violence – to the LGBTQ+ community of some people perhaps, they do not understand the intent and purpose of doing so. However, because the bad stigma is deeply rooted, not many people can embrace and know about the sexual diversity and gender variance that exists.
Often LQBTQ+ doesn't have an equally strong voice.
Where in essence, humans must have the same right to life as other humans.
That's why Pride Month exists to voice social rights themselves, remove bad stigma, and celebrate everyone's self-acceptance.
Living side by side without discrimination in my eyes is a necessity. To put it simply, it is a fact of the formation of social justice that should be respected by anyone. If done right, all the parts will support each other and have a positive impact on the community in their own way.''
We need to voice out. We need to talk about this. Raise awareness on the daily. Be brave to have sensitive conversations and open up. The more people are aware and taught about it, the more we are moving forward to a world that is accepting.
Here at THIS IS A LOVE SONG, we take PRIDE in supporting the LGBTQ+ community. We think it's really important to support one another and always have each other’s back. Support and teamwork helped create this brand. We would like you to know that in all journeys, no one is alone. Everyone should have someone. Someone to support you, someone that stands by you and someone that encourages you. We would like you to be aware of these topics and support them as well.
In the words of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr,
“Our goal is to create a beloved community and this will require a qualitative change in our souls as well as a quantitative change in our lives.”
So let us all work together hand in hand and make it so.
